Front Tow Hooks

Dumping ground for offroad Trailblazer or Envoy general discussion.

by TPuls » Wed Aug 20, 2014 9:16 pm

I searched the forum and only found a couple items on front tow hooks but it wasn't sufficient. Aside from a new bumper, has anyone fabbed any tow hooks in the front of their Envoy? I'm not concerned with cutting into the bumper or anything like that. I've looked at the mounting brackets that are used when flat towing but for the price I'm just holding off until I pick up a new bumper. Basically, just looking for something to finish out this summer. If there's already this discussion and I missed it just post the link please.

Why not go to a junk yard pull some factory tow hooks? I got mine for like $12 bucks.

That's what I was thinking about doing just wasn't sure if trailblazer hooks bolt directly to envoy. I have some here for a Z71 I was just going to make work. Looks like it'll be about the same thing.

This may help you.

You could just take off the bumper cover and mount something like this.

The stock TB hooks will bolt onto an envoy. You may have to drill and bolt the extra bolt on though. Not sure if the Envoy uses the same impact bar or not. You would have to cut your bumper cover. The stock hooks for $20ea don't sound so bad. I wouldn't do what is pictured above, not without a second bolt in the hook.

The envoys impact bar is the exact same as the trailblazer. I use stock tb hooks on mine. But I flipped my bumper because of the rad skid to fit them. The only problem is the bumper cover if it is being used on the Envoy.

I'm running my hooks with a rad skid, I think BartonMD tweaked the skid a little to make tow hooks fit but I didn't really pay attention to it.

Yeah I believe Moots is using my trailblazers front tow hooks, impact bars are the same. If you already got the skid, flip the impact bar upside down and bolt em on top, super simple

well i'm trying to resize my photo so it'll upload but I can't figure out these program with windows 8...anyways, got the tow hooks installed. I used aftermarket tow hooks but just moved them slightly from where the factory holes are so I had to drill. At least in my case, the Envoy bumper didn't need to be cut. I hat pull it down and give each side a good pop with my fist for it to slide through the bottom slot but not a big deal. Probably should have just kept it off. It's getting pretty banged up and probably just going to get torn off one of these rides anyways. I'll get the photo size figured out here and post a pic soon.

What do you mean that you had to "move them from where the factory holes are"?

What member did you have to drill through? Its very important, because if you're solely bolted into the impact bar, you will pull your hooks off the first time you put a real load on them.

Definitely not by choice...my computer just crashed a couple weeks ago so I just went to best buy and picked up the cheapest laptop they had. I asked but all of the ones there they had were windows 8. Didn't have time to look around or research/wait for anything.

And the hooks are attached to the frame. I'm pulling my bumper off later to do a few other things I'll take a good shot.
