You've got a nice rear bumper there Nathan. Why not mount your hilift there?

If I put it back there it's gotta be standing up, and its gotta fold down so I can use the hatch.I'm gunna get a rear tire mount this week so I might attach to that. I have the d-rings for recovery so u can't really block them. And it will get covered in salt and rust away to nothing cuz they dump loads of salt in Mich. And I like to be different.

I don't think I want mine on the hood. Besides it blocking my view, I would likely beat all the paint off the hood getting it up there and off when I needed it. I keep mine in the back, for now. I just have to remember when I am going somewhere that I might need it to make sure it is going to stay accessible.

My plan is to build a cargo organizer and mount it to that in the back where it is easy to get to and securely anchored.

Ok gentlemen, I did it.it's not that bad to look at.you wouldn't believe what a hard time I had drilling holes in my hood.Unfortunately I'm really hungover right now from New year's so I will have to post pic of it later.and I'll explain what I used.

Can you even still open your hood?

This is what I ultimately did. Plus no one is motivated to steal it.

I'm with Navigator. I'm too short to put something that awkward on the hood of my truck without damage. I must admit, it looks better on the hood than I expected. The black really helps. Is one bolt on each side enough? They are pretty heavy. I think I would be worried about warping the hood sheet metal. I see the washer on the bottom, that should help.

I gotta say though, the paint on my hood is the most important part of a paint job for me. So, that probably fuels part of my hesitation. Has anyone considered attaching it directly to the inside of the hatch? I've thought about pulling the plastic off to see if there is any steel to work with in there. The other hesitation I have with that location is if the hatch will stay up with the weight of a high lift on it.

IMHO This mount looks interesting and like a projectile at the same time. I hope you used grade 8 hardware. Do you have a way to lock it?

You have one of the shorter ones. I noticed at TECORE I had bought one that was probably way taller than my general needs, lol.

Did you remove the base?

Hope it works out for you, but I'm with everyone else on this. But to each their own. :lurk:

I'm 6'2" so I can reach out and do it. I don't have a way to lock it.but the trough bolt is in a steel sleeve in that bump stop and will spin if u try to loosen it.the bolts are shackle bolts from my little brothers YJ so I'm sure they are strong enough.if still got some ideas on beefing it up a bit.yes, my base is detachable wich was convenient.it's a 54" trail jack. It does warp the skin but I figure a long piece of steel across the hood, hole to hole would fix that.

It looks okay, but I would´t´want that right in front of me in a case of a accident! For the problem with the salt in winter times I didn´t see that this would be a better position.

I don't dislike it.

the standoffs on top of the hood appear to be "not metal", that would worry me a bit as I can see the jack shifting back and forth under braking and accelerating and wallowing out the holes you drilled and work hardening the sheetmetal. This in addition to the small washer on the underside doesn't give me warm fuzzies. I'd feel better with a larger plate sandwiched between the bolt and the bottom of the hood to spread out the forces across more of the sheetmetal. I'm no engineer or nothin though, I've just read their thoughts for quite a few years, so some stuff jumps out at me.

It looks like a pretty serious visual obstruction to me. But if you're comfortable with it that's all that matters.

I just keep mine laying under the hold down in my truck when my roof rack isn't on. I've thought about mounting it somewhere inside the rig but been to lazy latley.

I am going to agree with everyone else, structurally this doesn't look safe. those holes are going to wear, it is not very thick sheet metal. Some bouncing around on the trails, a few hard stops, and that will become a missile into someones vehicle.

That said, it does look good from the outside of the vehicle. However, what it doesn't look like is a functional mount. From the looks of it, to remove it on the trail you will have to completely unbolt it from the hood. It doesn't look like it would be a very user friendly set up.
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do.

It is actually a little more structurally sound then u guys think. I can grab it and shake my whole blaze around.I'm not sayn you guys are wrong but nobody has done this that I know of. Therefore nobody knows what will happen. It does have sleeves in it so it's quite strong. Trial and error. That's how we got our rigs where they are today. As far as the user friendly go's, I can easily lift it off, I just need some lock washers and wing nuts. I thought about coder pins.

Hope it works well for you. Seems pretty solid except for maybe making a larger plate on the under side instead of the basic washer.
