air vents in grill assembly

Have any of u non SS owners tryed making the vents in the grill assembly that allows air through the gap in the middle of the headlight behind the grill? I'm jobless fir the next 3 days so I need a good project. Leme know. Thanks

Not sure what they would add unless you were trying to make a ram air but then you are sort of asking for water to be sucked in.
I hate to advocate weird chemicals, alcohol, violence or insanity to anyone...but
they've always worked for me.

I see. I thought we had pretty good cooling in stock configuration. Dont really hear of anyone needing to cool the motor. I know the trannys need an extra cooler sometimes, but not sure vents would help.
I hate to advocate weird chemicals, alcohol, violence or insanity to anyone...but
they've always worked for me.

LOL? You are joking right? From the factory we have a fan sized for a 1-ton Duramax and a radiator sized for a 4-banger econobox. It’s very unbalanced. I've seen all kinds of stupid high temperatures from my rig on barely oversized tires.

Although I agree with your statement about the vents. That's a pretty marginal modification.
Once lifted 03 Trailblazer on 35's, gave it up to travel the USA with my family.

I have really only seen high temps once in the mountains before the trans cooler and for a lil time when I had mud packed into the fins of the radiator. Otherwise I have always ran under 220 and these motors like to be about 200-210. Maybe other climates are different.

Seems vents in hood or fenders to remove heat might help more than in the grill. Seems to work well on jeeps.


More air is not always better. Sometimes only so much can be utilized without doing something else.

That's true I suppose. I don't have a clutch fan, u run just Ann electric and the blaze stays around 200<>190

Really....Electrics have been proven over the years not to keep up under rough conditions like the clutch fans do. What setup are you running?

Not sure, my neighbor have me one out of his truck. I'll try and find out what it is.And I'll take some pics for ya.it's big, really big. Variable speed options.draws a good amount of power too.

That's about where I seen mine, and out west, up lots of big ass mountain passes and also around here in FL traffic with A/C. Again in Utah, Arizona and Texas with A/C in mostly desert climates and good old Florida. This was before the Transcooler. Have seen better temps in FL traffic with trans cooler. I'm curious to see if that actually solved it for up mountains, can't say yet.

A trans-cooler is probably still a great investment for an item that can be had under $100. :thumleft:

I wouldn't know where to begin with one of those.but Probly a good thing for me, seeing as how my trans it's doin the old torque converter slip. Unless it's cold.once it's warm it slips

I have the grill with the headlight washer holes which allow air through the headlight. I also have the air box gutted.

There was an article on the oos for faux SS grill inserts.
