I havent quite figured out the filter yet, but I have a few ideas. As for the having enough room to drill through the fender part, I may have it nailed.

Wrenching now, i'll give an update in an hour or so.

help me understand the need for a snorkel, if you get in water deep enough to need a snorkel, isn't it going to upset something electronic also?

For anyone decent with fiberglass.... I have everything leftover to make one, but I don't wheel the tb anymore.. This guys finish work kinda sucks but you can make it look pretty good

If you seal your connections and complete other water tight mods, then a snorkel can be functional. Otherwise it's more for look rather than function.

The other thing is doing the mod yourself successfully that has it's upside, but like James said, there are other more functional things that can be done first so this is a lower priority.

Was able to move the resevoir and have more than enough room to get a 3 inch hose through without any modification.

I will probably end up trimming down the coolant resevoir, to fit on top of the WF container better.

When on a group ride in dusty environments it can help get cleaner air to your engine as well. As others have said it isn't a real priority.

It's mainly a safety factor. Often intakes (such as ours) are located near the front of the vehicle to get colder air. This works against us when pushing through water due to the bow wave. The majority of the engine may not be underwater, but the bow wave could engulf the air box.

If you do get a good dunking, replacing some smaller electronic components may not be too expensive or difficult, but bending a rod in the case of water injestion into the intake is very expensive (most likely would be an engine replacement).

There's another benefit when driving in a convoy on a dusty road, you can generally get cleaner air up high. The TECORE guys know how dusty it can get behind another vehicle when driving on the long dirt and gravel tracks.

Was just talking about this with my FJ buddy. He has 1 and i was curious if 1 for like a jeep grand cherokee would work on a TB. They have a similar windshield angle and roll from fender to hood. Would have to close off the front of the air box still but I think that wouldnt be too hard.

I,d use dragon skin instead of Bondo but same result. I've seen this before too. I seriously considered doing this butnever had the balls to drill a hole in my fender

Was looking at my neighbor's truck a couple of weeks back. F150 4.6l v8. This is the stock airbox....

That actually could work really well. And you could easily attach your hose that goes to the snorkel to the end.

I think the filter and engine bay portion is simple. Lots of inline filters available. Factory like that ford and aftermartket.

Figuring out something that really matchs up outside is the tougher part to me.

Can someone help me understand the need for a snorkel?
I know that many air boxes suck in air from the bottom and a good splash in water will cause them to suck in water and possibly hydro-lock.
If you corrected that flaw, moving the suction to the top of the air box, what would be the advantage of a snorkel besides possibly cleaner air? It would seem that a lot of electrical items(starter, ac compressor, alternator) would be underwater and potentially short out before you got to the top of the airbox.

When actually wheeling...I have had lots of mud and water on my filter. I have no doubt it is a functional mod.

Snorkel prevents water from getting into engine from air intake, if you've ever had water come over your hood then you know the need for it, its up high to get above the water. So moving the airbox inlet to the top will make it easier for water to get in, gravity is a bitch. But with our 2 peice pos airbox it reall doesn't matter, you need a new airbox just to add a snorkel anyway.

It also depends how deep it is also. Snorkels are awesome until it's submerged and you have electrical problems and not hydro locking problems
