Offroad Trailblazers and Envoys

Sell me on the TB.

Dumping ground for offroad Trailblazer or Envoy general discussion.

by jimid » Tue Sep 04, 2012 12:41 pm

Looking to purchase a new 4x4 truck. (early 2000s gm)

Sell me on the trailblazer over a tahoe.

Used to have a late 90s 2 door tahoe on 33s. sold it when gas went up.

Heard mixed reviews on these trucks but been looking through the forums and some of these machines look really good (and more agile than a full sized suv).

I live in south florida right now so no crazy terrain.

Thanks for the input.

they are easier to park in the mall parking lot than a Tahoe, thus they fit on tighter trails.
they are cheaper than a Tahoe, thus more money for mods/trips.
there is no offroadtahoe.com, you don't get these guys with a Tahoe.

Honestly it depends on your needs. If you go with the 5.3 V8, I expect much of the drivetrain is similar (engine, tranny, 8.6 rear). The I6 is very reliable and has plenty of umph especially with a tune.
If you need the space get a Tahoe, if you want to go on tighter trails and easier to park when not wheeling get the TB.
While we likely don't have the amount of aftermarket support that a Tahoe would I would say there is enough support to do most anything this IFS platform can handle.

If I were to be in the market for another SUV, I would likely get a V8 TB EXT(aka wiener dog) because I could use the extra people space.

South FL...get a Tahoe. If you want to go big and play in the deep mud later...there are options for the tahoe.

TB benefits... size n turning but you prolly dont need either in your area.

The Tahoe might also hold it's resale value better.

About the last thing someone on an offroad enthusiast site should be worried about.

Get a Trailblazer. IMO they handle better and look great lifted. So does the Tahoe but i see them everywhere lifted.

I've never ridden in a Jeep GC but my son's 98 XJ is not real comfortable to ride in and even though I am like 5'9, I bump my head getting in it. My nephew has a 93 CJ (with leafs) it is cool but it rides rough. The TB is a huge improvement in creature comforts. I would say that most here are moderate wheelers, very few with over 33 inch tires. There are some exceptions but for moderate wheeling, exploring, hunting, fishing, expeditions, camping the TB is a great platform. It is comfortable, pretty dependable and is much more nimble than similar sized vehicles.

It also had a frame unlike many of the jeeps out there.

I own a Toyota and have driven/ridden in Jeeps and many other SUVs, lifted and not. TB's are like riding in a Caddy compared to most. Full size rigs feel too big to me unless I'm hauling equipment around.
