Plastidip the whole truck, wonder how it would hold up?

Dumping ground for offroad Trailblazer or Envoy general discussion.

I've been quite bored the last few weeks so cursing around trying to decide what to do with my stock wheels I started to look into plastidip.

Came across this

Interesting idea in that its cheap and temporary

Of course if you drag the front bumper of the truck over a rock its not going to stand a chance, of course neither would your paint.

But most of my (and I use the term very loosely) "body damage" is more likely to be from brush and trees scraping the sides of the truck, or the more typical rock chips etc from the highway.

I have my doubts about how well this would work long term (over the course of a full year), how easy it would be to touch up, and certainly how well it would stand up off road even in "mild" situations.

But an interesting idea and something I might think about trying on some vehicle at some point, if nothing else it protects the paint I guess.

One way to find out! It would protect the paint at least.

I ran across that about a month ago, seems reasonable enough and I'd be lying if i said i hadn't considered it. I'll definitely be trying it on my firebird.
I think the best test would be to talk to guys that have done their wheels and see how long it's lasted. From my recollection there have been several comments on multiple forums about it holding up more than a year. Worse case, you're out an afternoon and a few hundred bucks.

I had thought about painting the bottom 6-8 inches of my truck with it. It has some pretty decent road rash.

The nice thing about this would be easy touch up all the time, and you could peel and sell down the road if you wanted.

I'd be interested to see how it touches up. The videos from that same guy show him fixing a small tear on a wheel he had done. He uses basically some paint stripper to smooth out the area of the rip then put more coats over the top of it, would be kind of a complicated process if say you had a size able rip on a door or something from a branch. But I wonder if it just seemed complicated because he was going for a super clean finish, lets face it on our trucks most of us aren't going to be concerned with one area being a slightly different texture than another because we resprayed it. Even if it was a slightly off it would probably still look better than a scratched up door or bumper I guess.''

Not in my foreseeable future either way, but an interesting idea none the less

See if were going to spend the time to plasti dip the whole thing, I wouldn't want to worry about touch ups. I say screw plasti dip and hurculine the whole thing!

It doesn't touch up too well. And as far ad road rash and what have you, plasti dip is worthless (my wheels are a testament to that). I will say that it is cheep. Like many of you said you can just peal it off. Eventually it will look raggy. if you go through mud with a plasti dipped car then good luck. Because it will always have a brown tent to it after no matter how many times you spray or scrub

Looks like this is an older thread but I'm replying anyway. If you have a brown tint you did something wrong. I have plastidip on my TB and now my dirtbike.

Had it on my TB for 2 years now and it still has a semi gloss black finish after I wash the wheels.

The dirtbike has been through mud, snow, sand rocks etc and looks good as new.

yeah, after TECORE this year I got my crossbar clean with just some window cleaner. A few passes took up all the mud. My bedlined bumper and sliders... now that's a whole other story

I used to work at a shop here in VA and once saw a Tahoe from Tennessee show up for some work. Bumper to bumper roof to rails the thing was covered in line x. Looked pretty cool. Guy said his entire truck club was the same way all of them painted with bed liner
