Cutting an envoy fender

Dumping ground for offroad Trailblazer or Envoy general discussion.

by cbratholt » Tue Jun 05, 2012 3:50 pm

okay, question. have an envoy xl with 265 tires currently, want to go bigger, trimmed a bit of front fender plastic inside but nothing major so far , but back is okay right now until i put on bigger tires. Watched roadies metal cutting on his envoy, but the rockers on mine seem to be made of plastic with bolts on the end, on mine that sticks out the furthest, didnt see it on roadies, how to i cut that plastic rocker and keep it on my car? Any help is appreciated

Not possible. Sorry. Front mounting tab for rocker panel has to get hammered in.

I hammered mine at first, then had to go back in and slice it totally off with the Sawzall. The plastic rocker panel covers were removed WAY before I got the rock sliders welded on. Useless things.

I cut straight through mine with the sawzall. There are other bolts that will hold it on, or stick in a self tapper to hold the ends if you want.

Mine's a TB, but same idea.

If u need a visual reference, check out my build thread. I have close ups of what I had to trim to fit my 285/75/R16's, they still rubbed by the way when turning fully and hitting bumps, and especially when loaded with passengers. No longer an issue with my 89' springs!

Brad, stick a link to your build in your signature if you want - just for easy access for other people (especially if you're referring people to it).

hey thanks for the info, found your build as well, looks good. see you cut out the bottom piece and doesn't look like metal cutting was needed. Still waiting for my new rims to arrive, but replacing a front hub today, so took an air grinder and cut that piece out already.

Does anyone have a cutting "blueprint" for 285/70/17 for Tb? or is it basically going to be one and the same

think biggest difference between the 2 is the front bumper, envoys come back in a bit where trailblazers dont. so envoy requires a bit more front cut

I don't think anybody's done a template in the usual sense of the word because it's all trial and error. Cut a bit, drive around, cut where it rubs, wheel a bit, lather, rinse, repeat. If you assembled all the slices taken off you might be able to recreate the needed cut in one swoop, but why bother? What's the downside of cutting too much? Just a bit extra clearance for your NEXT set of larger tires! :excited:
