We have emissions test but it doesn't actually test the emissions coming out of vehicle, just hooks up to OBDII and makes sure system is operating properly.

yeah, I had a painful time getting an inspection this year.
1st it wouldn't pass because the fuel gauge issue triggered a light.
I took care of that and then it failed again because it needed an evap sensor.
It then failed again because it hadn't been enough miles.
It finally passed.

The inspector (a neighborhood guy I know pretty well) said if there was any CEL on he couldn't pass it and only one system could be in the "not ready" status or it wouldn't pass. From what I understand when you clear the codes or disconnect the battery it puts the systems in "not ready" for a certain number of hot/cold cycles.

Exactly, because in the early years of emission testing, sleazybirds would reset the codes on the way into the test location and get away with it. Now the same sort of crooks can only get away with selling used cars to rubes who don't take the time to get the codes read, only to discover horrible problems the day after they get the vehicle home.

As long as you don't as if your spark plugs possibly being bad is the reason your wipers don't work, you'll be fine.

And yes, I had a guy at work ask me this. I laughed and just walked away. Good thing all he does is clean cars and not actually work on them.

One of the good things about FL. My 88 camaro had zero emmission control devices (except cats). it sucked gas and hauled ass... I miss it.

You sure this was for the resonator and not for the muffler?

technically speaking, James is correct, the law reads any modification to the exhaust system that may increase sound is illegal. The resonator delete may be able to be construed to be increasing the sound. The law also specifies that it can't be louder than the factory exhaust, since no manufacturer I know of publishes that data you can simply state it is no louder than factory and then, therefore, legal. It's on them to prove it's not legal. I don't know of anyone that has had trouble passing inspection with a modified exhaust around here, I also don't know of anyone getting tickets for it. Unless it's really really exceptionally loud and you're really really obnoxious with it, you should have no issue. This isn't any legal advice of course, but you can read your local laws and figure it out pretty easily with some time and a search on Google.

Nowhere near close to a legal explanation, but I did the resonator, and the wife never noticed the difference.

if your "tail pipe" were to get smashed during a trail ride and you had to replace it with a new piece of "tail pipe", that would sound like a completely logical explanation if anyone noticed the weld/new pipe under there.

Chop that trash can off and put on a tailpipe they will never notice... Unless they have one.

Some one should cut the end of theirs, gut it, and use it as a waste paper basket or whatever. So it can live up to the trashcan name.

I cut of my resonator, and replaced the muffler with some "turbo" muffler. It sounds a little better, bit I want it a bit louder, a little more crackle to it. I was thinking removing the cat, and muffler, doing 3" pipe all the way back, and an EGR delete. what do you guys think?

I was reading about EGR deletes and cat deletes recently because my truck needs some work and a tune would be cheaper than new cats and the other things my truck would need.

If you delete the EGR, it is recommended to tune for at least 89 octane or 92/93 octane. It is recommended that you don't tune for 87. The EGR system is the main way the truck can avoid an engine knock by adjusting how much exhaust gas it recirculates artificially raising the octane level of the fuel. (slowing down the burn). It's possible to get a knock as a side effect when you delete the EGR and tune for regular.

Guys have gone straight pipe before. Some have said it is too loud. Some like it. I personally haven't heard a straight piped TB. But yea, if you like loud, it'll work.

So the consensus I get is the resonator delete doesn't increase the noise level. We have a 99 decibel limit on our offroad/forest service/ we forgot there was a road out there, areas. Which if I remember right, is really freaking loud.... :slap:

99 is pretty darn loud. Gun shots are roughly 120-150 decibels IIRC.
