If they are the right kind of shocks, you don't neccesarily need springs. Here are some shots, of my buddy's samurai, even though there isnt much samurai left. He is four-linked, front and rear.

meh, there's more than a few 4WD trucks with some real good travel that are IFS. 16-20 inches at the wheel isn't uncommon. There's plenty of IFS rigs that can climb pretty decent too, it's not just for driving fast in the desert. With that said the only reason they are winning KOH is because there is a huge variety of terrain. For a crawler the SAS is still the way to go if you want to get serious.

as far as the rear axle matching the front, I can't say it's a big deal to me either way. Seeing a lot of this stuff is pretty inspiring though.

That width...it was set up for desert. It is simply too wide for real trail use. 4 inch or so wider fenders then the whole tire is outside of that. Easily pushing a foot wider than a typical full size width which pushes limits on many trails.

I am more and more impressed with IFS abilities in my reading and watching lately. Not denying that a good IFS setup is a very valid option for offroading these days.

Baja style trucks and trophy trucks have always interested and appealed to me. If money were no object I would have one and be out west.

Offroad magazine has gone to featuring a bunch of them lately and has been showing lots of solid axle alternative ideas in the past couple years. Might check it out if thats your flavor.

yeah, you're definitely right Kyle, that's an extremely wide rig. It's probably exclusively a desert rig. I don't think you'd want something much wider than Mike or Steve has with their SAS.

Seeing Chris starting to take a real interest in a long travel trailblazer is good stuff. He's just gotta get off his ass and start building! We need more SAS rigs and some long travel rigs. I'd like to see a lot more imagination and work put in. The S10 guys have gotten pretty crazy, I don't see any reason we can't. Guys could piece together a reasonable IFS for the price of a SAS. It doesn't have to be a money pit.

I didn't want this thread to start getting in the vein of totally writing off IFS as a viable solution given the options that are available if someone wants to put in the work. I'm a big fan of encouraging crazy ass ideas (just ask moots).

I personally would not do it to that extreme. However if money wasn't a big deal, well i would upgrade to RCV, get Radflo's and then extend the arms relocate the differential and actually be able to go over the 3" suspension lift. I have all the math done~ish. I keep improving the design on paper by adding supports and such :work:

Relocating the diff is the only difficult part of that I see. Did you figure it out? Because the only one I saw halfass done, scared the crap out of me. Certainly did not look to be build for real use.

I think the main reasons we haven't seen much done is that a lot of TB's are still daily drivers. Plus, they are still a tad out of the price range of a throw-away vehicle. S-10's can be picked up pretty cheaply, nowadays, along with others vehicles that have a larger base of off-roading parts.

Local guy runs KOH and his ride for it is titled, plated, and insured as a dune buggy in IN so he can drive it on the road.

If you don't mind me asking, what's your buddy's name? I have a feeling my buddy probably knows him. He runs in those circles. Or, does his rig have a name?

He owns Sunfire Offroad. Scott is his name.

He did a bunch on my Burban when he first opened and he did the work, but his shop's work has gained a bad rep lately. He does some awesome fab work, but he does so much of his own....you dont get his work on yours apparently. Destroyed my close friends ARB with a crappy gear install.

My buddy doesn't know him, personally, but I guess has friends that do. Says that Scott has a newer rig that is pretty nice.

I used to go out drinking with him and his brother years back, but have not seen him other than shows and here and there for past few years.

Built for the 2010 KOH I think...

My buddy said that is his old rig... Said his new one is a black and red color.

I'm gonna shoot you! 10 rounds at a time! :wallbash:

San Diego is one step closer to being a shall-issue county, though! There *is* some glimmer of hope.

Interesting. I know it was for sale, but did not and a little search shows its being parted, but cant find anything on his new one. Did see him posting as machinewave, but no newer build threads. Need to stop in and see him.

Most of the long travel rigs I've seen have pretty wide stances. About a 5-6" wider stance on our's would result in less potential for CV bind so whose going to go wider and higher?

Also, no offense but this isn't a platform with lots of people doing crazy stuff. Unless we're all going to get into fabricating custom parts. The S10 crowd has more parts are more forums.
Once lifted 03 Trailblazer on 35's, gave it up to travel the USA with my family.
