He's getting a rear sump oil pan cast for non-TB applications...

This would allow the SAS guys to run the axle up higher, and would allow people to run a 1/2 or 3/4 ton IFS and lower it down!

Thanks for the link. Glad you saw it!

I posted on trailvoy, but it seems this could also be used for using a different front diff - and sticking with IFS. Just an idea - might not be worth the work really... hah!

Yeah, I may have mentioned that, as well... :poke:

IFS, though, is probably the way to go if you run rutted and washboarded roads at 20-30mph... Much less unsprung weight...

Did this ever go anywhere?

I've done a little searching online and haven't come up with anything other than a bunch of mentions on a lot of forums. I seem to recall seeing a online store that was selling these but I can't find it. Maybe I just suck at the internets.

edit: found it

I just texted Jason this idea.

What would stop you from getting a spacer the shape of the oil pan gasket machined, buy a second oil pan gasket, mount the spacer in between 2 oil pan gaskets and essentially lower the oil pan and front diff 1/2" or maybe 3/4" and add a quart to the oil capacity.

And of course longer oil pan mounting bolts.

Actually Mike B (Dirty Anton) has one of these, but hasn't put it on, because I guess it only holds 4 quarts; a fact that was not mentioned before he got the thing.

yeah, it states it on the website now and gives more measurements. Apparently they're calling Friday to check on the expected shipment of another set. Would probably be smart to use an accusump with it, or maybe a spacer. From my limited reading I've gotten the impression that the oil pan is a structural member of the motor much like the LS motors. If that's the case maybe the spacer wouldn't be such a hot idea. I need to read more.

They do allude to that fact and are using it as a selling point in their ad aren't they..

well they got back to me, apparently the porosity issues are fixed and the current pricing is... wait for it... $650 a pan. you still have to drill the hole for the dipstick tube and any other sensors. That's a good chunk of change.

maybe a guy would be better off cutting up a stock pan and welding it... or maybe it could be brazed together.

Actually, that's pretty cheap, considering his market, and considering the startup costs an low qty. of these. His market isn't people who want to SAS their TB as cheap as possible. His market is people building/resto-modding show cars and putting Atlas 4.2 engines in them.

I wouldn't go so far as to say it's cheap, I don't think it's unreasonable though. It's a far cry from the $350 price I saw floating around. I'm pretty surprised to see such a difference.

They were quick to respond to my inquiry and answered all my questions. Seems like a good fella.
